Cowan Scholarships 2008
Applications are invited from prospective students for the Cowan Scholarship. The Cowan Scholarship is offered to commencing students and is dependent on financial constraint. The applicants must be supported by either their school or the Rural Counsellor’s Network. Most scholarships are awarded to candidates from rural or regional backgrounds.
The scholarships will be awarded each year to provide up to three years accommodation at Roseworthy Residential College. The scholarships will be used for educational purposes.
Scholarships are also available for commencing students residing at St Mark’s College to the value of up to $7,000. Application forms are available from St Mark’s College.
Applicants need to demonstrate financial need and be able to provide supporting documentary evidence at the time of applying e.g. details of income tested Commonwealth income support payment such as Youth Allowance, Austudy, ABSTUDY benefits, or other details of their financial circumstances.
Applicants also need to provide evidence of potential for tertiary study from a referee. Also required are at least three referee details of persons prepared to support this application and to comment personally and confidentially on:
# Suitability for further study
# Study habits
# Value of the Cowan Scholarship to the nominee and family
Selection for this scholarship will be made according to academic merit and financial need. Academic merit will be determined according to TER scores or according to academic records from post secondary level study.
The Scholarship must be taken up in the year in which it is offered; acceptance of the Scholarship offer cannot be deferred. If a student declines the Scholarship offer, the Scholarship will be offered to the next eligible student.
