    Australian Leadership Awards Fellowships

    ALA Fellowships are for short-term study, research, and professional attachment programmes in Australia delivered by Australian organisations. ALA Fellowships complement the longer term ALA Scholarships providing opportunities to senior officials who cannot leave their positions for extended periods.

    ALA Fellowships is a highly flexible programme offering professional development opportunities to current and future leaders from the Asia-Pacific region by leveraging existing linkages between Australia and countries in the region.

    Eligibility

    Applications are restricted to Australian organisations demonstrating on-going linkages with counterpart overseas organisations in eligible countries (see the table on the next page). Partner country counterpart organisations and individual fellows are not eligible to apply for support however they may initiate contact with an Australian organisation to explore their interest in applying for fellowship funding.

    Eligible Countries

    Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Kiribati, Laos, Maldives, Marshall Islands, Mongolia, Nauru, Nepal, Niue, Pakistan, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Timor-Leste, Vanuatu, Viet Nam, Wallis & Futuna.

     

    General Eligibility Requirements Of Fellows

    Be a citizen of, and are residing in, an ALA eligible country.

    Have been working in their country of citizenship for four years immediately preceding the date of their nomination.

    Be able to take up the nominated Fellowship Programme at the time and for the duration proposed by the Australian organisation.

     

    Value

    A maximum of $35,000 per fellow is available which can include:

    Return economy airfare

    Accommodation and living expenses

    Medical insurance costs when in Australia

    In-Australia transport in respect of approved activities

    Short course costs

    Programme Overhead Fee

     

    Application Process

    ALA Fellowships will be awarded twice yearly through a competitive selection process held in Canberra. Selection is based on strength of existing linkages of Australian organisations and the leadership ability of fellows. Application forms can be downloaded from the Australian Scholarships website.

    Applications for Round 3 will open on 2 January 2008 and close on 3 March 2008
